Carolyn Ferry is the daughter of Phyllis (Wright) and Samuel Ferry and is married to Alejandra Navarro.
In 1999, Carolyn and Alejandra’s friendship began with an invitation to a New Haven Symphony because Alejandra “claimed” she was a classical music enthusiast. Of course, that was a fib (blatant lie) she told just to attend and that fib was revealed when she applauded during a break in a movement – her sole claps echoing through the silent concert hall. The fit of laughter that ensued would be the couple’s first of millions and laughing at inappropriate times would be just one of their many commonalities. They shared a love for concerts (especially outdoor), UCONN women’s basketball, roller derby, all things from the 70’s, “debating” politics, fighting for social justice, hiking, biking, traveling, and spending time in, on, and by the ocean. The duo is on a global quest to find the most comfortable hammock with the best ocean view – and beverage service.
They married in 2009. Over the years they have learned much from each other. Alejandra is now a fan of Irish step dance (known to try a few steps only when no one is looking) and St. Patrick’s Day Parades (marching in the NYC parade a few times). Carolyn has gained an appreciation for Mariachi music, Mexican art, and fine tequila (once joining a dune buggy tour in the Mexican desert to find the best bottle). In 2017, the couple left Connecticut and hopscotched across the states to land in Carlsbad, California, Alejandra’s home state. They love spending time with their families, especially their nieces and nephews, on both coasts.
Carolyn graduated from UCONN and earned a master’s degree from Sacred Heart University. She works in IT for Yale-New Haven Health System. Alejandra graduated from UC San Diego and earned master’s degrees from Columbia University and Quinnipiac University. She now works in marketing/communications for the Foundation for California Community Colleges. They support each other’s hobbies. Carolyn (from the comfort of home) roots for Alejandra when she is on a new adventure, such as hiking the Inca Trail in Peru. Alejandra always finds a front-row seat at the performances of the Del Mar Strings music ensemble, where Carolyn plays her violin. Alejandra now knows when it’s appropriate to applaud, but she is still the loudest one in the concert hall.
