The Wright Family Reunions were the glue that held the family together. Every year since 1970 we gathered for the annual party; almost always around the 4th of July. And so a celebration of our country, our veterans and our families was the order of the day. We paid tribute to our deceased relatives and welcomed our new family members, through marriages and births. We especially looked forward to seeing our extended families who always made the trip from New York, New Jersey and Michigan.
For forty years we met without fail, even in 1972, when a flood occurred and a last minute plan was made to gather in Gerry Yosh Lipski’s back yard. We never allowed the elements to deter us! The reunions were held at the Larksville American Legion grounds and families brought their favorite foods and enjoyed a day of fun and games. We had quoits, ballgames, and the ever popular egg toss.
Since the family has a bit of an acting streak, we were never without volunteers to take part in a skit – usually a theme selected for the occasion. Many of the skits are shown in photos in this portion of the website, and included some historic – “Story of our Roots”, “Wrights on the Moon”, and the “Wright Family Olympics”. Others, just for fun, such as “The Wild West” and “Christmas in July”. In addition to our skits, we had patriotic parades, talent shows and karaoke sing-alongs.
We give thanks to those family members who have given years of service to the planning of reunions; no easy task. This includes the contract, purchasing of refreshments, prizes, setup, music, program and photography. Your work has been outstanding and greatly appreciated.
Although we thought we were at the end of our celebrations, younger family members have asked that it be revived, and we are proud to say that a new generation has planned a July 2014 gathering at the Breslau Fire Station. If this is successful, we will continue a wonderful tradition – the Wright Family Reunion! Keep family in your hearts.
